These terms govern your use of the 4Drive Hungary booking service. By completing a reservation through our platform, you agree to these conditions in full. We act as a booking booking service between you and independent rental companies operating in Hungary.
4Drive Hungary provides an online booking platform connecting customers with local vehicle rental companies across Hungary. The binding rental agreement is formed between you and the rental company at the time of vehicle collection, not at the point of online booking. All vehicle specifications, rental terms and additional services are supplied by the rental company and confirmed in your voucher. Our role is limited to facilitating the reservation and collecting the advance payment on behalf of the rental company.
Vehicle availability, pick-up locations and operating hours depend on the specific rental company assigned to your booking. Collection may take place at a counter, at the airport terminal or through delivery to your hotel, as specified during the booking process. The rental company's contact details, operating hours and exact collection instructions are provided in your voucher.
When you complete a booking through our website, you receive a voucher containing all reservation details, the name and contact information of the rental company, and instructions for vehicle collection. The formal rental agreement is signed at the time of collection, directly with the rental company. That agreement governs the rental period, permitted use, damage liability and return conditions.
The rental company will inspect the vehicle with you before handover and record any existing damage in the rental agreement. The same inspection process applies at return. Any new damage identified will be assessed according to the terms of the rental agreement and the coverage options you selected. The rental company is responsible for enforcing the rental agreement and handling all matters during the rental period.
Vehicle specifications, transmission type, fuel policy and included mileage are confirmed in your voucher. The rental company may substitute a vehicle of equivalent or higher category if the reserved model is unavailable, but will not downgrade without offering a refund of the difference.
At the time of booking, you pay an advance online by card through our secure payment system. This advance secures your reservation and is non-refundable except as outlined in the cancellation section. The balance of the rental cost is due at the time of vehicle collection, payable directly to the rental company.
The accepted payment method for the balance depends on the specific vehicle reserved and is clearly stated in your voucher. Some vehicles accept debit cards and cash, while others require a credit card. We do not accept cash payments online. If your card has a limit lower than the total rental cost plus the deposit requirement, you should contact your bank to arrange a temporary increase before collection.
The rental company will place a hold on your card at the time of collection to cover potential damage, traffic fines or fuel charges. The deposit amount and the type of card required vary by vehicle and are specified in your voucher when you complete the booking. This hold is a separate matter from your rental payment and is not income for the rental company or 4Drive Hungary.
The deposit is released by the rental company after the vehicle is returned and inspected, typically within seven to fourteen days depending on your card issuer. The deposit amount is independent of any damage coverage or protection plan you purchase. Selecting additional coverage may reduce your liability in the event of damage, but does not eliminate the deposit requirement.
The driver must present a valid driving licence at the time of collection. Licences issued in the European Union are accepted without additional documentation. Licences issued outside the EU are also accepted, and an International Driving Permit is not required. Minimum and maximum age requirements are set by the rental company and confirmed in your voucher.
All drivers must be named in the rental agreement. Adding a second driver is available as an optional paid service and must be requested during the booking process. The additional driver must present their licence and be present at the time of vehicle collection. Only drivers listed in the rental agreement are permitted to operate the vehicle.
Optional services include child seats, vignettes for motorways and cross-border travel permits. Child seats must be requested in advance and are subject to availability. Vignettes for motorways M0 through M9 and expressways can be arranged through the rental company or purchased independently at petrol stations and border crossings, available for ten days, one month or one year.
Vehicles must be operated in accordance with Hungarian traffic law. Urban speed limits are 50 km/h, open roads 90 km/h, expressways 110 km/h and motorways 130 km/h. Hungary observes right-hand traffic. Motorway vignettes are mandatory for routes M0 through M9 and all expressways. Fuel stations operated by MOL, OMV and Shell are widely available.
Cross-border travel into Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia and Romania is generally permitted with advance written notice to the rental company. You must request cross-border permission during the booking process and confirm approval in your voucher. Travel to other countries or failure to notify the rental company will void insurance coverage and may result in additional charges. Off-road driving and participation in motorsport events are prohibited.
You are responsible for all traffic fines, toll violations and parking penalties incurred during the rental period. The rental company will deduct these amounts from your deposit or charge your card on file if fines arrive after return. You must return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at collection, or pay a refuelling charge set by the rental company.
You may cancel or modify your booking by contacting us at [email protected]. Cancellations made more than 48 hours before the scheduled pick-up time will receive a refund of the advance payment minus an administrative fee. Cancellations within 48 hours of pick-up are non-refundable. The rental company may allow changes to pick-up time or location subject to availability, but changes to rental dates or vehicle category may require a new booking.
If you fail to collect the vehicle within two hours of the scheduled pick-up time without notifying the rental company, the booking may be treated as a no-show and the advance payment forfeited. If the rental company is unable to provide the reserved vehicle and cannot offer an acceptable substitute, you are entitled to a full refund of all payments made.
The rental company is liable for the mechanical condition of the vehicle at the time of handover. You are liable for any damage to the vehicle, theft, loss of keys, and third-party claims arising from your use of the vehicle during the rental period. The extent of your liability depends on the coverage options you selected at the time of booking and the terms of the rental agreement.
4Drive Hungary is not liable for the condition, performance or availability of vehicles, for the acts or omissions of rental companies, or for any indirect losses arising from your rental. Our liability is limited to refunding payments made through our platform in the event that a rental company fails to honour a confirmed booking. We do not provide roadside assistance or insurance; these services are the responsibility of the rental company.
Issues arising during the rental period, including vehicle defects, billing disputes or damage assessments, must be addressed directly with the rental company using the contact details provided in your voucher. The rental company is responsible for resolving operational and contractual matters. Complaints about the booking process, payment issues or the accuracy of information on our website should be directed to [email protected]. These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Hungary. Any disputes arising from your use of the 4Drive Hungary booking service or your relationship with a rental company will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hungary. The rental agreement you sign with the rental company is a separate contract governed by its own terms, which may include alternative dispute resolution provisions.
We reserve the right to update these terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon publication on our website. Bookings made before a change in terms remain subject to the terms in force at the time of booking. Your continued use of our website after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
